Critical Incidents
What is a critical incident?
A critical incident could be an array of incidents, but generally a critical incident is any incident that requires or necessitates immediate action by the department in order to determine the circumstances of the incident. Most commonly for law enforcement a critical incident is an officer involved shooting. Most commonly for fire service a critical incident is a traffic collision involving the fire engine/vehicle.
What to do if involved in a critical incident?
It is important that if you are involved in a critical incident to immediately notify your labor representative and/or attorney. Given the nature of these incidents and the potential for liability or even criminal prosecution, it is imperative to have assistance and guidance immediately if you are involved in a critical incident prior to giving any sort of statement to a department representative.
If you are facing an administrative investigations review, contact us for confidential guidance.
